New smartphones are developed at the speed of light, with fascinating new features - 5G network, 4K resolution, AI camera, fast charging, high-performance CPU, to name a few. Meanwhile, some people and ads keep reminding us to keep our devices up-to-date. Have you rushed for a new model of smartphone? Have you been confused by the fancy features while making your choice? Did you benefit from the attractive features of your new smartphone, or suffer from your impulse purchase?

A step further, in what way does your smartphone influnce your lifestyle? What about special communities like the old? How to make a wiser decision to upgrade your smartphone? Besides, what can we do to help the old using smartphones?

So this is it! 2020 is just around the corner. 2019 is an important year in the sense that there are many anniversaries and celebration taking place in China. What are your most memorable events? Although the internet has made it so much easier to find what you want to know, these days, people are increasingly willing to pay for quality content online. Are you a subscriber of Apple Music or Netflix? How many online courses have you paid for? Should we pay for knowledge? What is the underlying causes of the booming knowledge economy? In the same line, should museums and libraries charge for admission? Do you think the disadvantages of charging people for knowledge outweigh the advantages? Or do you agree with those people who argue for ‘No pay, no gain.’ theory. That is to say people tend to take free things less serious. This Saturday, let’s have a good catch-up session and talk about the to pay or not to pay dilemma.

Some Concluding Remarks from the Session

1. There is NO such thing as a free lunch. Products or services that appear to be free always have a cost to someone, even if it not the individual receiving the benefit. In many cases, free things don’t cost you nothing (think about your time, privacy and attention). Stay vigilant.

2. The concept of ‘free’ is open to interpretation. Free can imply cheap, causal, informal and insignificant. Free can also indicate invaluable, noble and charitable.

3. Sometimes, ‘no pay, no gain’ applies. For instance, paying a subscription to online courses actually motivates you to study.

An Afternoon at Fujian Museum

Hey guys, it has been more than a month since we spoke. Do you miss it? Miss it? Miss it? We are pleased to announce that we are back with a special event this Sunday afternoon. We are going to have an experimental learning session at the exhibition hall entitled 'The Splendid Civilisation of Ancient Fujian', Fujian Museum.

The activities employ a 'see it, say it, sorted it' approach to practice your spoken English. We will start with a 15 minute walk-around in the exhibition hall, identifying an object, a display, a historical figure or a period of time you would like to explore. Then, we will join a guided tour (in Chinese) with a senior and professional volunteer at Fujian Museum. Hopefully, with the guidance of Mr Yang and the English scripts, you will be able to create your own tour guide speech.

It is slightly challenging but would be extremely helpful in enhancing your ability to think on your feet. Plus, you would learn a lot about local history with an expert. So please do join us if you are interested.

End of Season Reflection

2018年11月18日和Lin, John, Rachel, Maryna的第一次聚会仿佛就在昨天，一转眼，「茶隅FUN逅」的第一季常规活动已经圆满收官了。在过去的9个月里，有478人/次朋友在「茶隅FUN逅」际会碰撞，创造了39种不同的思想联结，感谢各位的陪伴与支持。

我们会利用接下来三个月的时间对第一季的活动进行反思和总结，对活动的定位和形式进行新的探索，希望大家不吝指教，多多分享宝贵的意见和建议。在此期间，我们仍会不定期组织线下（“测试性”）活动，消息将在网站与群内发布，请各位留意关注！
