Recently, many graduates arranged teacher appreciation dinners/parties to express their gratitude to their teachers. This week, we invite you to share your stories with your favourite/ least favourite teachers and discuss about the very Chinese teachers. Etymologically, the word teach comes from Old English, ultimately from the Proto-Indo-European root *deik- which means to show. Tutors, coaches, instructors, mentors and teachers, how are they different? Moreover, Chinese people deploy many metaphors to describe the teaching profession, such as 'the engineer of the human soul', 'diligent gardeners', 'burning candles' etc. Which one fits the typical image and/or misleading stereotype of Chinese teachers.
